In March of 2008 Gilead Media released the debut full-length, Tyrant, by Baton Rouge, LA doom band Thou. Over the past two and a half years the band has played over 150 shows, including multiple national tours throughout the entire US. They've also managed to release a split, ep, cassette or LP (their catalog now numbering nearly 20 releases) on just about every label worth their weight in a pallet of vinyl... from Southern Lord and Robotic Empire to Halo of Flies, Vendetta and Perpetual Motion Machine, Init, among many, many more. Without a single record falling below their high standard of quality.
I think this is due in part to this basic fact: Thou are a "punk rock" doom band. They've somehow combined the ethics of true DIY punk, and the sound of sludging, droning doom to breath life into a creative entity that is completely passionate, they're entirely dedicated to what they do. They don't write their music and lyrics to serve any one scene or genre, I don't even like labeling them as doom, as it isn't fitting in and of itself. THOU draws so drastically on so many different influences, influences that find their ways through their songs in a myriad of ways.
These are the things that set this band apart in a world where many try to emulate honest heavy music. Their lyrics are politically and ethically charged, their riffs defy simple genre classification, and SUMMIT showcases the band at their most progressive, melodic and diverse. All the while retaining their signature style of apocalyptically crushing metal. In the time since I enthusiastically exchanged my first emails with them in late 2007 Thou has grown from an up and coming band in heavy music, to a band that is now primed to define the future of what slow and heavy music may become. I never thought I'd be writing a description for a punk record on Gilead Media but here we are, and I simply cannot praise this band enough. Arms Aloft offer passionate songs with incredible & intelligent lyrics in a style that goes above and beyond the confines of punk. These songs are the very definition of catchy, all the while maintaining a style that feels so close to your heart and honest in its delivery. Some people will refer to them as pop punk, and that's fine. But It's in my belief that Arms Aloft has simply figured out how to channel the raw energy and excitement that has been missing from more melodic punk over the past few years and focus it into something familiar yet reinvigorated with the vitality it has needed.

You know, I've been a huge fanboy for everything Dave Rudnik (Bass - Get Rad, other stuff in Seven Days of Samsara, High on Crime, Kungfu Rick, and a ton of other righteous bands) since I started getting into hardcore. In addition, I was always a huge Since by Man fan (Kevin, vocals for Get Rad played guitar for SBM). So naturally when I first heard about Get Rad I was really excited to see what it was all about. I was never let down. Every release reveals more and more how much can be awesome and righteous in hardcore. Get Rad are about as good as it gets.
When Dave proposed the idea of Gilead working with Hyperrealist to release the new Get Rad full length, I Can Always Live, how the hell could I possibly even say no to that. There was no decision to be made, quite frankly. It had to happen. Not only because of my aforementioned love for the band, but because I've come to find a great friend in Pat who runs Hyperrealist, and I've really just been looking for a good reason to work on a record with him. Just perfect.
So, April 2010 we will present what I strongly feel is one of the best hardcore records I've heard in years. Get Rad capture an energy and excitement that I've come to think was lost in hardcore. I am elated to be involved in the process of releasing the record.
"I Can Always Live" will be presented in CD and Gatefold LP format (with digital download). Get stoked, stay rad.

Krallice return with a full-length record that is leaps and bounds beyond their self-titled debut. Everything is MORE here, more droning black metal riffage, more intense metal parts and a greater sense of composition. On Dimesional Bleedthrough you can really feel that the Krallice has found a groove where they are comfortable and focused.
Some people say Krallice aren't trvly a black metal band, and that may very well be the case. Perhaps they've reached a point where they transcend the realms of what black metal has been, ascended to this new level where Dimensional Bleedthrough takes us. A level where it can be more progressive and more technical without limitations of some fuzzy indecipherable recording. Where other elements of metal can find themselves entwined in the cryptically crafted songs, creating something new and wonderful. If that's not your thing, that's fine. But that's where I'll gladly be.

Thou/Leech "We Pass Like Night, From Land to Land" Gatefold Split LP

Wow. well, where do I begin with these two? When Bryan (thou) first came to me and asked if I wanted to release their cassette-only split with Leech as a cooperative LP release with Vendetta, how could I say no? I hadn't heard Leech yet, but I will never turn down the opportunity to work with the friends I've made in Thou. Not to mention the fact that the 4 songs on their side of the split are easily some of the most incredible pieces of music I've ever heard. They're literally all over the place when it comes to style. Two incredibly heavy and melodic doom tracks sandwiched between an intro / outro pair of complete beauty, the latter of which composed and performed in part by the lovely Emily McWilliams. Female vocals? Piano? Yes... and it's amazing.
Fast forward a couple months, at this point I've heard Leech and was blown away by their unreal mix of True Cascadian Grey Metal and unbelievable proggy song structure, with scathing vocals over a lo-fi recording that still remains decipherable. I truly wish Leech were not so adamant about remaining obscure, because they could seriously take the world of Black Metal by storm and turn it entirely on its ass. The day I received the audio master with their single, 20 minute long, untitled track, I was astonished. Opening the mailer was even an experience. At first glance nothing appears to be out of the ordinary. Then, I notice it is sealed with a wax stamp. I open the package to find their audio master, on cassette, with a letter that was typed on a typewriter using a photograph of a grey overcast sky as the type surface. Finally, as I empty the contents, I am surprised by a conifer branch. Outstanding. I was immediately amused. Truly Thou and Leech are an outstanding pairing for a split LP.
We Pass Like Night From Land to Land comes packged in a heavy-duty gatefold jacket with a full size hand screen-printed poster and also includes a download code for the entire split in mp3 format (there will never be a CD version).

Thrive & Decay was originally released as a cooperative effort between six labels in 2008, limited to 1000 copies on black vinyl. Having sold out over the course of a few short months, Gilead stepped up to repress this epic pairing of songs with brand new artwork, remastered audio, and on clear red vinyl. Again limited to 1000 copies.
This split is not only a split between two great bands from two very different parts of the US, it's an astonishing showing of power by two very young bands. Black September, Chicago, IL, offer "Under The Rising," a diverse 6 minutes of death metal/thrash with touches of dooming riffage. THOU, Baton Rouge, LA, unveil one of their most politically charged and crushingly heavy sludge tunes thus far, "Smoke Pigs." Complete with the sample excluded from the first pressing. The first time I heard the split I was blown away by the vitality and passion put into both songs. "Smoke Pigs" and "Under the Rising" really compliment each other despite the fact that they're sonically very different.

It is with great pleasure that I formally announce the business partnership entered into between Gilead Media and Frodus to re-release the epic & inspiring album "FRODUS CONGLOMERATE INTERNATIONAL" on a 45 RPM (!) 2xLP (!) packaged in a gatefold jacket (!) with a brand new bonus track(!!!). Although originally released in 1998, "FCI" has proven to be record that stands the test of time and continues to influence musicians around the world. Frodus helped pioneer a genre and defined themselves as legends. This LP re-issue includes a full color jacket, full color insert & an official "FCI" contract that is intended to be signed and mailed to FCI headquarters for countersigning and returned to signee. "Retaliation" contains the last two tracks from the "Tyrant" CD that are not on the "Tyrant" LP released by Southern Lord.
I found 5 copies in a box that I set aside 4 or 5 months ago for an export distro shipment. The customer never responded or paid so now you get a chance to snag one of these babies up! This record includes a large hand screen-printed single color poster on butcher paper, a screen printed cardstock insert with letter pressing on the reverse side, and the fantastic "Animal Liberation, Human Annihilation" 2-color patch. Everything was hand screen printed by either myself or Chris Sommer from Sacred Tapes, with letterpressing done by Bryan Funck. These are the last 5 copies I have. This may be repressed sometime in the fall after Summit is all settled up. But now before then.

The grey pressing of AB Life was a bit of an overrun and resulted in a batch of records arriving without jackets to find a cozy home within. These have just been hanging out for a good couple years or so. Occasionally I would remove a black LP from a jacket and fill it with a grey LP to fill an order and such, but they generally sat untouched. I decided to go ahead and screen print some folding jackets and slim inserts, providing a limited edition version that will essentially only be available here, one time. The band is getting a small batch, about 14, but I'm not sure if they're going to bother selling them or just hold onto them or pass them around to friends and family. So here they are, only 36 on black, 53 on grey, and one on clear orange from the first pressing. These colors will be filled into orders randomly, so please don't request a color because your request will be ignored. All copies will be hand numbered /90.
